But with the 22H2, Microsoft has integrated the video editor with the OS. So, if you were looking for a basic video editing tool, look no further. Still, it can be difficult to start with a brand-new video editing application. So, we are here to show you are ropes.
Begin a Project with Clipchamp
So, you have to launch the Clipchamp app and get to the home page. You have to create a Clipchamp account. This should be easier if you have a Microsoft account linked to Windows 11. After setting up the account, you will reach HomePage.
- Click the Create a New Video button at the top. This lets you create a new video using your own assets.
- You have the option to start with, a new Template. There are multiple template categories like YouTube and Instagram. Select one that feels right and proceed with it. There are also other templates like text, video, and audio. They can help you to create a layout just by adding the intro or the outro. You can also choose to add templates later if you are going to use more than one.
- Time to start with Recording. Instead of starting with a template, you can start with the recording. You can start recording with your webcam, record screen or do both. You can also add a recording while editing too.
- When you start a recording, you will be asked to choose a webcam and a microphone. After that, click the Record button to start recording.
- If you are also recording the screen, you will be asked to select what you wish to record. You can choose to record the entire screen or an app panel or just a particular area of the screen. The option to record system audio is also available but turned off by default.
- After selecting what you want to record, the recording will be initiated. It can go up to 30 minutes. You can also choose to retake it or add it to your project. The screen recording and webcam go into different tracks. But you can adjust the position and size according to your needs.

How to Use Clipchamp Video Editor in Windows 11
After you are done with creating the project, you will reach the video editing interface. here, you will spend most of your time. video editing is a delicate work and everyone has their own way of moving forward. So, here’s how to use Clipchamp in Windows 11. The video editing interface is divided into a few sections. The front and center is the video preview. This will tell you what the final result will look like and it’s extremely important. So that you can do the necessary changes. You can resize and move the video elements, and change the aspect ratio if you are going for a specific format. Below this section, you will see the video timeline section with all the added tracks. You can add as many tracks as you want. On the left side, you have the content and the media tools. The filters and effects are available on the right side.
1. Timeline
Clipchamp is a multi-track video editor. So, you can add multiple video and audio files playing at the same time. It is useful if you are going to mix a recording of your voice with some background music, or if you want to have an overlay of your camera on top of a screen recording. You can also move assets on the timeline, delete them, or cut them so you can split a video into different clips. You can add more assets for the final video. Drag them from the media panel on the left side of the screen into the timeline. You can either drag content into an existing track on the timeline or create a new track by dragging the content into the edges of an existing track. Clipchamp merges audio and video tracks by default. You need to be on the lookout for it. You can surely make the edits from the video track but you also have the option to split the audio track.
2. Media and Content Tools
After opening a project, you will get to see all the added media by default. But you still have the option to add more content from here.
Your Media: You can add your own media to the project but you need full control to add it to the timeline. You can also filter your existing media by type, which can be useful when you’ve added a lot of assets.Record and Create: You can record your screen or your webcam (or both) directly within Clipchamp. There’s also a text-to-speech tool, so you can write the text that’s synthesized as an audio file you can add to the video. There are multiple languages and voices you can choose from for the text.Templates – You can add pre-built templates, including outros, intros, or splash screens. Templates can include multiple files, like audio, video, and images. Music & SFX: This is for stock music and sound effects. Some of the assets are available with the free plan but the Essentials plan provides more options. Stock Video: You can add stock video footage from the Clipchamp library, including video overlays. Some of them are available only with the Essentials plan. Stock Images: You can add images from the Clipchamp library to the video. Some require the Essentials plan. Text: You can add text to your videos, like title screens, subtitles, and lower thirds. If you have the Essentials plan, you can upload your own.Graphics: You can add overlays, backgrounds, GIFs, or stickers to your video.Transitions: You can add transition effects to the video. It is useful when you are switching between different video files in the timeline.Brand kit: It lets you access assets from your brand kit, including fonts, logos, and colour palettes. It only comes with the Essentials plan.
3. Filters and Effects
Filters and effects are available on the right side of the window. You can apply them to the content on your timeline. The available options depend on the type of content you are selecting. Some options are available for video while some are for audio files.
Adjust Colors: You can change properties like exposure, saturation, and contrast for the selected asset. (video, text, image)Audio: Change the volume of the audio track in the final video. You can lower the volume for background music while keeping your voice higher, for example. (audio and videos with audio track)Colours: You can change the colour of the text and background. (text only)Fade: Set fade-in and fade-out animations for the selected item. (except transitions)Filters: Add filters to change the appearance of the image or video file. 4. Exporting the Project
After you are done using Clipchamp on Windows 11, export the video. It is the final step. At the top of the Clipchamp panel, you will find the Export button. You need to click here to export the videos in 480p to 1080p resolution. You can also export them as GIFs, only if they are 15 seconds long.
Clipchamp Plans
Clipchamp came with a convoluted pricing plan with its initial release, and many considered it overpriced for what it offered. Microsoft changed all that very recently. They have introduced a simple pricing structure to eliminate all the confusion. Now, Clipchamp offers a free plan and an Essentials Plan. The essentials plan costs $11.99 per month or $119.99 yearly.
As usual, the free plan has all the basic features. It has a multi-track video editor. You can use all your assets and a few stock assets from Clipchamp. Some of the assets provided by Clipchamp are free, but not all of them.
The biggest problem is you can only export videos in 1080p resolution, and it is for both free and Essentials plans. Now, what do you get with the Essentials plan? This paid feature provides access to a wider array of stock assets, like images, audio, and video.
Some of the assets are available with the free version, but most of these or you can say the good ones are a part of the Essentials Plan. The essentials plan also provides access to more video filters and enables you to upload custom fonts. Also, this plan lets you create a brand kit, including a colour palette, custom fonts, and logos for your video.
Probably the biggest benefit of the Essentials Plan is the cloud backup. You can back up all your projects to the cloud and work on them from any computer from any location.
Enjoy Editing with Clipchamp
So, this is the way to use Clipchamp in Windows 11. It’s a good video editing app. It’s not great if you compare it with the likes of Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Apple’s iMovie or Final Cut Pro. But this one is available for free. It’s a great place to start if you want to start with video editing. You have to remember, Clipchamp is all about the basics. If you are moving from Adobe Premiere or DaVinci Resolve, using Clipchamp in Windows 11 isn’t going to impress you at all.
